Perspective- Winter Concert

Verity Bleakley

12/16/2024

Perspective, the Winter Dance Concert, took place on December 6-7th in the RHS PAW. The dancers and officers in Jessica Cameron’s Dance Productions program worked hard to choreograph their own pieces, put together costumes, and prepare everything needed to put on the show. Many of the pieces are student choreographed, including many different groups and styles. What makes it special is that it’s not only Dance Productions participating in it, but Mrs. Cameron’s beginner and intermediate dance students are also able to showcase what they’ve been learning in their class with other routines. This show consisted of many different styles, performed at many different levels. It perfectly displays the diversity of talent that RHS’s dancers have!

What is Dance Productions? It is a wonderful program here at RHS that is offered as an elective class. They learn dance techniques and exhibit the things they learned in many different shows like our annual Homecoming assembly, and their Winter and Spring concerts. The teacher advisor is Mrs. Cameron, but many parts of the class are run by the students themselves. In an interview after Friday’s show, Grace Walter, president of Dance Productions, expressed her gratitude for and connection with these dancers. “I was so honored when Mrs. Cameron asked me to be president,” she revealed. “I love being president for this program that I’ve come to love so much. I love this program and I love these girls.” This program creates a community of dancers that are passionate about what they do and work together to see the success of these shows. Ava Tabellija, one of the production managers, indicated that her favorite thing about Dance Productions was the sense of family that it created. “They welcomed me with open arms and I just love these girls so much,” she expressed. When asked about her job as an officer, Tabellija also said “My favorite thing about being an officer is helping Mrs Cameron and seeing these girls be successful in doing what they love.”

Mrs. Cameron also has a beginner and intermediate dance class that is offered at the school as a Physical Education course. They focus more on the physical and technical side of dance and only perform at the Winter and Spring shows. Even though it is a different class, they still contribute to the wonderful community of dancers here at Ramona High. Rylynn Young, one of the intermediate dancers, conveyed her passion for performing with all the other girls. “It’s so fun to perform on stage with the people that I enjoy dancing with. I love performing anyways, but having the girls with me makes all the difference.”

There was an amazing turnout from our community, with a full auditorium both Friday and Saturday night. We love to see the support for our dancers! The actual content of the show included many different group dances, the main styles being jazz, hip-hop, and lyrical/contemporary. There were some fun, high energy performances, as well as sentimental and emotional pieces, each as enticing as the last. When asked about how the show went, Walter said, “I think the show went really really well, I absolutely love dancing on stage with all my best friends. Even though there were some mishaps in the show, we just kept going like the professionals do, and I’m so proud of every single one of the girls.”

RHS is proud to have these dancers put on these concerts to show their talent and do what they love. We can’t wait to see what they do next at their Spring concert in April!
