Airband

On Friday, October 4th students came into school and headed to the stadium to watch the homecoming assembly. The pep rally before the homecoming football game featured performances from a multitude of different clubs and classes.

The first performance of the assembly was by the Dance Productions class with 25 girls dancing to “Last Breath” by Destiny's Child and other hits. Next was the Folklorico club, which performed a Folklorico-style dance that highlighted Mexican culture. Female dancers wore bright colored skirts and male dancers wore jeans and cowboy hats. The Band and Colorguard played hypnotically across the field, playing instruments from tubas to electric guitars while colorguard members threw and twirled their flags. The Cheer and Song teams performed with flyers and cartwheels creating an elaborate routine.

The homecoming assembly featured the airband performances, a competition between classes with coordinated dances and costumes. This year's airband had the central theme of different decades. The freshman airband was a mashup between the 70s and 80s, with dancers wearing tie-dye and neon. The freshman moved about the field to songs like “Dancing Queen” by ABBA.

The sophomore class’ theme was the 2010s with boys wearing neon and girls wearing white tank tops and jeans. The sophomore class had a few fun stunts like a slip and slide, and a yellow smoke bomb to match the neon outfits. The class also had Principal Mrs. Rodriguiez as a special guest, sophomores pushed her in a shopping cart across the field as she shot dollar bills.

Juniors were thrown back to the 90s with boomboxes wearing backward sports jerseys and baggy jeans. They ended with confetti bombs and students crowd-surfing across their class.

The last of the airband performances was the seniors set in the 2000’s. They opened up with Mrs. Davis and the school mascot rushing past in a go-cart, and DJ KC played “Who Let The Dogs Out.” The seniors showed off with stunts like throwing three people in the air.

The seniors won the airband competition with sophomores narrowly coming in second place, juniors in third, and freshmen in 4th. We will see who wins the competition next year!
